Think drawing your favorite with paper and pencil is difficult? Try drawing them with chocolate sauce on plates.
In Seoul, there is an anime, comic book and video game store called Saboten Store. As tipster Sang points out, the staff cosplay and dress up as maids, but it’s not exactly a maid cafe per se.
This is an incredible art coffee in syrup, it is what it is.
Saboten, which means “cactus” in Japanese, opened early last year and was founded by a man named Kyung Chul Han, who worked as a video game reporter and game developer at NCsoft.

During the summer of 2013 and later that fall, people on Twitter in South Korea started posting photos of amazing edible art that the boutique cafe produced.
With their toast or cake orders, customers can shell out extra for the “shirup ahteu” (시럽 아트) or “the art of syrup,” drawn in a chocolate and strawberry sauce, among other sweet sauces and colored.
Syrup art is personalized – you can apparently request any characters you want! The variation in the art of syrup is amazing. There are different styles and totally different characters.
In the one below, rate the coffee!
Here, the staff concoct their wonderful sauce creations:
Order a cake or toast with a drink and the personalized syrup art costs about the equivalent of US $ 8. Some might balk at this price. But could you balk at art?
Apparently they don’t take forever to do! Otherwise, customers would be bored all the time.
No wonder this Twitter user wanted to imprint the art of the syrup he ordered and take it home. Supposedly, many customers don’t end up eating their syrup art and admire it instead.
Thanks for the tip, Sang!
